NCAA picks dates for women's tournament openers

The NCAA has announced the dates for the first and second-round games in the 2003 Division I women's basketball tournament.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA has announced the dates for the first and second-round games in the 2003 Division I women's basketball tournament.

For years, the first and second-round games were called sub-regionals and the top 16 seeded teams hosted them.

Games will be played Saturday, March 22, and Monday, March 24, at Coors Events and Conference Center, Boulder, Colo.; Stegeman Coliseum, Athens, Ga.; University Arena, Albuquerque, N.M.; Constant Convocation Center, Norfolk, Va.; McArthur Court, Eugene, Ore.; Mackey Arena, West Lafayette, Ind.; Maples Pavilion, Stanford, Calif.; and Thompson-Boling Arena, Knoxville, Tenn.

On Sunday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 25, games will be played at Shoemaker Center, Cincinnati; Harry A. Gampel Pavilion, Storrs, Conn.; Bramlage Coliseum, Manhattan, Kan.; Thomas Assembly Center, Ruston, La.; Reynolds Coliseum, Raleigh, N.C.; Lloyd Noble Center, Norman, Okla.; Bryce Jordan Center, University Park, Pa.; and United Spirit Arena, Lubbock, Texas.

Regional sites are Knoxville (Mideast) and Albuquerque (Midwest), on March 29 and March 31; and Dayton, Ohio (East) and Stanford (West), on March 30 and April 1.

The NCAA women's Final Four will be on Sunday, April 6, and Tuesday, April 8, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
