Cota thrives overseas

Posted May 29, 2003

Another year in Europe has yielded another championship for Ed Cota and he is now one of the most coveted point guards overseas.

Cota's 11 points and seven assists helped lead Zalgiris Kaunas to the Lithuanian League Championship Tuesday night.

Cota finished the season with some impressive numbers - 16.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists in the Lithuanian League and he led the Euroleague in assists per game (6.5) by a wide margin, despite Zalgiris' early exit.

And now, he has begun deciding where he'll be next year.

"Ed is headed home and we are looking at NBA summer league and veteran camp opportunities very closely," Jason Levien, Cota's agent, told IC. "His perimeter shooting has been solid and we are confident that given the right set of circumstances he can make the move to the NBA this coming season."

His two championship seasons overseas (in Belgium and Lithuania) have made Cota one of the most highly regarded European point guards.

"After completing his first full season in Europe this year, Ed has established himself among the most elite point guards in Europe and should again be one of the highest paid American guards in Europe next season, if he is unable to secure an NBA roster spot," Levien said. "Ed is in terrific shape and has really improved his market value considerably."
